ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The world I view as the Present, rather than being a moment in time, is a canvas that by nature includes elements of what is past and the promises of the future. T.S. Eliot, the poet, put it this way:

Time present and time past are both perhaps present in time future,
And time future contained in time past.

My interest in the industrial and urban landscapes is that the images reveal not only the structures we have made, but how we felt as we created them and which we choose to keep, even as they are superseded by new technology. The old and the new contrast, but both are present.

Landscape is the context within which we live. Because these landscapes and our society both change, but at different rates, there are always new developments.  Rather than constrain my images to one area or one period, I have arranged the City Life section to be updated constantly as I perceive changes and will include as many images as I can that reflect the range of our society’s feelings.

A few of my images appear more than once on this website, some of them because they are important in more than one way. Others have a symbolic significance that reflect some of my deepest concerns.

My images, taken together, reflect my deep humanism. Everything a lens can see has already become part of the world as we know it, but it is the dynamic range of how we live that I seek to record.
