Winter Dance of the Elms

I like trees--my art is punctuated with images of them. For me they have become symbols of nature in direct ways, for their
magnificent stature, their delicate, brilliant blooms, their endurance. In New York’s Central Park there is a promenade flanked by towering, stately Elms that have survived the Dutch Elm disease. In summer their grandeur is masked by their foliage, but winter reveals the drama of their limbs, from their thick trunks to their angular branches. Standing immobile they are full of movement, a dance that can only be seen in winter.
I have added to my collection of tree images this seven paneled polyptych to celebrate these monumental elms.
